The columns represent the number of times you have invested in a given company. For example, the first time you invest in a company, your transaction falls into the first column, Investment 1. With each follow-on, another column is added to the chart, with a total column at the end. This allows you to see what percentage of your investment dollars are going into initial rounds vs follow-ons. Depending on your style of investing, this can be very useful in analyzing how much money you should be holding back for additional rounds.
